Saying you’re not FLEXIBLE enough for YOGA is like saying you’re too DIRTY to take a BATH
The B-Yoga Community
B-Yoga prides itself in being an incredibly welcoming and friendly environment, making you feel at ease the minute you walk through the door, because we know just how intimidating that first yoga class can be!
B-Yoga is a place where you can get away from it all, take time out for you and find a supportive community of fellow yogis, who are there for the same reason as you.
Yoga is about building a relationship with your body, about developing awareness, and moving your body in ways you don’t move it on a day to day basis. This will allow you to unlock your body's full potential, improve your posture and make you more comfortable and confident in your day to day life.
Every person's body is different, some are overly supple and some overly tight. It doesn’t matter where you fall into the spectrum, all that matters is how you feel on the inside. So overcome your fears of whether or not you will be able to practice yoga, instead learn to focus on building a healthy relationship with your body by taking the plunge and stepping onto the mat.
You can only go one way to improving your body and mind when you start practicing yoga, but if you don’t start you will never begin that process of transformation.
Some common myths about yoga
You must be flexible to practice yoga
Flexibility is a result of yoga, not a requirement. Ask yourself this, how are you meant to get flexible if you don’t practice? Just like anything you want to achieve, you must work at it, but if you don’t start that journey, it will never begin.
Everyone does perfect yoga poses in class like on Instagram
Picture perfect yoga poses is not what we are aiming to achieve in class, we want you to dive into your body and learn how to feel in a pose rather than how it looks! Over time with commitment and discipline your body will open up and it will be capable of some amazing things. Some people want to achieve headstand, others just want to ease their back pain. Try not to put unrealistic pressure on yourself, be inspired by others around you but always stay true to you.
Everyone will judge me on how I perform in class
Unfortunately, this is why most people don’t start yoga. B-Yoga studio is the furthest away from this concept that you will get. Everyone in the studio is incredibly friendly and supportive, our yoga community is made up of all shapes, sizes and abilities. The truth is, most people who come to yoga are just like you, trying to find inner peace or a healthier lifestyle. What you don’t understand is that when you start practicing yoga, you don’t even realise that there are people around you in class. Once yoga gets into your bones you completely submerge yourself in YOUR practice and not the practice of others.
Yoga is too easy / too hard
There are many different styles of yoga, some that relax your body and mind and some that work muscles you never knew you had! The trick is to find the one that is right for you right now. No matter what style of yoga you practice it will leave you feeling energised, revitalised and calm.
Yoga is only for women
EVERYONE who does yoga gets physically and mentally stronger. You will grow in confidence, be more open-minded and feel more comfortable in your own skin no matter what gender you are, so get your toes on the mat!
You will need your own Yoga Mat (available to buy at the studio).
